The time frame for getting signatures and returning them to us is by the 12 September. We have extended that to next week due to the many requests to extend due to postage delays. The reasons for the short time frame is due to: Lodging the petition prior to the New York Summit on 19 September. Also, the Children on Nauru would like a response from the Minister before Christmas. Therefore, we are allowing 90 days for the Minister to respond. In saying all of that, we are going to contact the House of Representatives petitions committee on Monday to ask if we can lodge the first petition (the signatures we have received and will receive next week), then lodge an identical one at a later date so we can give people more time to collect signatures. We will post the answer we receive from the committee as soon as we get it.
